In Conjunction with the Coombs Farmers' Institute, industry stakeholders have the opportunity to attend an interactive session designed to introduce powerful information which can improve business decision -making and capture greater value from the marketplace.

Presented by Martin Gooch, Director of the Value Chain Management Center at the George Morris Center, the session will focus on a national twelve month study of meat consumers’ purchasing behavior, which suggests that producers and processors can take a leadership role in increasing the value of meat sold in Canada.

Making management decisions based on clear and accurate market signals can significantly reduce business risk. Producers and processors, retailers and foodservice can capture additional value from the market by better targeting specific consumer groups. Information provided at the workshop will identify ways to add that value to business operations by better understanding the relationship between consumer sentiments and operations performed along the value chain.

Producers attending the session will have an opportunity to build a more detailed picture of their consumer base than they could otherwise achieve, including the relative value of product and service attributes that various segments of the consumer market desire when purchasing chicken, lamb, pork or veal. Producers and processors can then enhance those attributes consumers deem critical to their satisfaction.
