Viticulture Course-Cool Climate Winemaking Level 1


June 3-7, 9:00am to 4:00pm
Vancouver Island University, Center for Continuing Studies
5 sessions: Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat & Sun

This intensive 5 day course will introduce the wine making skills and knowledge required to work in or manage a small, cool climate winery. You will learn about the annual cycle of wine making from the harvest and crush to the art of making high-quality wines, and how to assess grape quality and to recognize good wine making practices. The fundamentals of wine cellar procedures, including quality control, hygiene and aging techniques will be reviewed. The role of the tasting room and wine shop, as well as customer service, will be covered. The course is appropriate for horticulture professionals, winemakers, winery managers, and others interested in improving their skills and service to the wine industry.


A Certificate of Completion will be offered from Okanagan College upon successful completion of optional exams.
